Lily (Li-Chen) Huang is a triple threat — a violinist, pianist, and musical educator with a refined and comprehensive understanding of music. Born into a musical family of teachers, she began piano lessons at the age of three under her aunt’s guidance and soon started performing with family members. Her talent led her into Taiwan’s prestigious gifted music programs from elementary through high school, where she trained intensively in performance, music theory, harmony, and ear training.
Lily moved to the United States to pursue advanced studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she studied with Jesse Mills, a member of the Horszowski Trio, and Sean Wang. She was awarded a merit scholarship and participated in masterclasses with many internationally renowned violinists, further deepening her artistic voice and musical insight.
As a performer, Lily has appeared at notable venues such as Pickman Hall in Cambridge and Opera America in New York. She has collaborated with musicians across the Greater Boston area and performed with ensembles including the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, among others. Her performances are known for their sensitivity, clarity, and communicative power.
As an educator, Lily has over a decade of experience working with students of all ages and cultural backgrounds. She is known for her patient, structured, and holistic approach, helping students build a strong foundation in both technique and musical understanding. Many of her students began with little or no experience and gradually developed solid technical skills, musical confidence, and the ability to practice independently. Her lessons often integrate music theory, ear training, and body awareness, empowering students to not only play well but to truly understand and enjoy music.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, English, and Taiwanese, Lily creates a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment. She believes that “music is not just about playing the right notes — it’s about telling a story with heart, depth, and imagination.”
